D. G. Flamand Violence-Free Writing Contest
Over $300 in prizes could be awarded for your kids’ story!
Generous author D.G. Flamand brings his Violence-Free writing contest for anyone 18 and under to Living Green Kern River Valley Festival for 2011. With the rash of teen suicides and bullying becoming a hot topic for the Kern River Valley and elsewhere, D.G. Flamand has created a special creative writing contest just for the Living Green KRV Festival that varies slightly from his standard theme of violence-free stories but also allows the children to vent some of their frustrations on the topic of bullying.
Prizes include: $75 to 1st place, $50 for 2nd place and $25 for 3rd place winners in each of two age groups (age 12 & under, age 13 through 18), copies of his books to all winners (approximately $30 each book set), Violence-Free Tee Shirts ($12 value) and a pair of tickets to the Living Green Opening Awards Dinner! ($16 value per winner for winning child & 1 adult).
State Senator Jean Fuller is scheduled award the winning prizes to children at the Living Green Opening Awards Dinner on Friday, March 18.

Our Kick-Off Presentation
6pm, Tuesday, September 14 - Kernville Community Room
We held a meeting to talk about our next Living Green KRV Festival
followed by a screening of two short films:

- "For the Price of a Cup of Coffee" [trailer] a short(15 minutes) environmental documentary examining the life cycle of a paper cup and the repercussions of a society reliant on convenience. Why are less than 1% of coffeeshop patrons bringing their own cup? Why do we have so much garbage, and where does it go? What is the true cost of a disposable culture?
- "Ubuntu" a short (8 minutes) film from South Africa from the Global Oneness Project. Ubuntu, a traditional African philosophy, recognizes how we are inextricably bound in each other’s humanity. Translated as, “I am because you are,” Ubuntu describes a sense of unity between people through which we each discover our own strengths and virtues. Featuring healer Credo Mutwa, GreenHouse Project director Dorah Lebelo, and former Deputy Minister of Health Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, this glimpse of South Africa shows compassion as a way of life.
The main Living Green Kern River Valley Festival will be held from Thursday, March 17, 2011 through Sunday, March 27, 2011 here in California's Kern River Valley.
If you were not able to attend this meeting, but would like to be a volunteer for the 3rd Annual Living Green Kern River Valley Festival, e-mail us at LivingGreen@mchsi.com.
You can volunteer for just one 2-hour stint to our Treasurer (who would serve on our Steering Committee).
